June Update

Posted by Russ French on

What an action packed couple of months for us.   We are well and truly underway now with our modelling supplies with most of our initial stock arrived, photographed, entered into our stock taking system, put up on the website and finally out on the shelves for our customers to buy.
The initial set up is always time consuming and it has been a steep learning curve for us all as we get things set up.   We’ve done several rearrangements within our limited space and I am sure there will be more to go as more and more items arrive and we find space to show it off.
As many of you know we will be stocking mostly items we use in building our display models for the defence industry and defence forces.    We feel that this is the best way to be able to highly recommend what we sell to make sure they are the best for you, the customer.    Most items I have used countless times and know the best way of using it (but I am always looking for new inventive ways of doing things 😊 ).
This doesn’t mean that I will only be selling these limited number of items.   If there is something that you would really like us to carry then don’t hesitate to ask.  If we can get it in, we will.   We are always on the look out for different and useful tools, paints, glues and other items.   This goes for kits too.
We don’t have a huge amount of room in our shop front so we are sticking to mostly kits that come with Australian markings and fittings or they can be converted into Australian versions using scratch built parts, aftermarket parts and aftermarket decals.   There are several great aftermarket suppliers out there and we will be gradually getting this stuff in to go with the kits we wish to carry.
Manufacturers seem to be starting to see that there is a substantial market out here in the “land down under” and that by adding unique Australian decals into the mix they will sell well here.    I have had to do conversions for many of the models I do for defence and several of those “add on’s” I have sold as an aftermarket kit.  I will continue to do that for some of the kits we will have in stock.
Well, what have we got to sell!    So far we have stands with full stocks of Evergreen Styrene including the large 60cm x 30cm sheets, stands for Testors Model Master paints (the Federal Standards), metalizers, thinners and sealers and spray cans, Tamiya acrylic paints and thinners, Tamiya tools such as sprue cutters, tweezers, files and hobby knives.   Also in stock is a great range of high quality balsa wood and ply, great for the model aircraft hobbyists.    In the coming weeks our full range of K & S brass and metal stands will arrive along with our new Plastruct stand full with styrene parts and Albion Alloys stands will all arrive.
As I said before our range of kits is not huge but we are getting some great kits in including some great new releases including the new Italeri 1:32 scale F-35A Lightning II with RAAF markings and their 1:48 scale F-4E with RAAF markings.   We also have the Trumpeter 1:32 scale F/A-18F and EA-18G Growler kits along with their ASLAV vehicle models as well as accessories for your models such as the new 1:35 scale 20 foot and 40 foot shipping containers.
More new stuff arrives each week so keep a close eye on our website (online store) for prices and stock.    Or even better, come on in and have a look for yourself at what we have.   More and more people are learning that we are now here and are very happy that we have gone down this road to supply modellers in the New England, as we have been without a model shop for some time in this locality.
Don’t forget, if you don’t see what you want on our online store or when you stop in at our shop, just ask and we will do our very best to get it in for you.   If you need some advice on what to use for a certain job or how to do it, we’ll do our best to help you there as well.
To keep up to date with what is happening at Defence Models Model Supplies you can subscribe to our monthly e-news letter and visit our online store at www.shop.defencemodels.com.au
Teresa, Lisa and myself look forward to welcoming you to our great little shop.
