News from our shop!

Hi and welcome to the first newsletter of 2020 - detailing what's new in store, what is happening here and online. Happy New Year to one and all.

Veterans' Discount

We are very pleased to announce that as of Saturday the 11th of January 2020 we will be offering a 10% discount on all shop items to current Service Personnel and Veterans.  Simply come on it and show us your current ADF ID card or White or Gold Veterans Card to receive your discount.   We are currently working out the best way to offer this discount to mail orders as well.   At present, let us know in the comments section on the online ordering that you are a Veteran or ADF member and put in your Service number or White or Gold Card number so that you can obtain the discount on your purchase.
(We are still figuring out how to get it working online!)

Emergency Services Discount

As everyone knows, Australia is going through a period of devastation at the moment with Bushfires from one end of the country to the other and I am sure it is touching almost every single person in the nation.  These men and women who are out there on the front line, water bombing from above, evacuating families from the fire ravaged towns, medical evacuations of those injured, the Police providing patrols, escorts and road blocks, at the HQs keeping control of the situation or even back at the base providing meals and help to them are all Heroes and I do not use that term lightly.
As a result we are also offering the same discount to all Emergency Service members (Police, Ambulance, Fire Brigade, RFS, CFA from all states and SES).   Once again, just present your ID card or badge and you will receive 10% off all instore goods.
Hopefully this goes a little way to us saying Thank You for all that you have done, still doing and will have to continue doing in the hot months ahead.

Welcoming in the New Year

With the start of the New Year, it was time to restock the shelves after Christmas.   In the past week we have had a great influx of kits, paints and materials.   A restock of Testors Model Master paints, Tamiya Paints and Evergreen Plastics have our stands full.
Some great new kits have come in.

From the Hangar

Also arrived are a number of new kits in store, including the Academy Model 1:32 scale F/A-18A with RAAF decals, Hobby Boss’ 1:18 scale AV-8B Harrier II Plus, Italeri’s new 1:48 scale CH-47F CHINOOK helicopter and Academy’s new 1:35 scale AH-1Z Viper attack helicopter.  Lots of restocking of the old favourites also.

From the Bunker

We also received a good restock of other kits in all sorts of scales including some, Trumpeter’s 1:35 scale ASLAV-PC, Meng Kids World War Toons tank kits with three new kits available and a range of Tamiya 1:48 scale WW2 German tanks. A restock of Academy Da Vinci kits has also arrived after these sold out over the Christmas period with many ending up in the Christmas stockings.  These beautifully done educational kits are ideal for the kids and those wishing to get into the hobby.
We did manage to obtain a box of Showcase Models BUSHMASTER PMV however these sold so quickly that they hardly touched the shelf and are now all gone.  We are trying to get a few more to satisfy requests.

From the Dockyard

A great range of ship kits from Tamiya, Trumpeter and Italeri also arrived in the past week including Tamiya’s 1:350 scale USS ENTERPRISE CVN-65, MISSOURI (both WW2 and 1990 versions), YAMATO and BISMARK.  We also managed to get a few of the re-released Dragon 1:700 scale Charles F Adams Class Guided Missile Destroyer which comes with all parts and decals to build her as one of the RAN’s PERTH Class DDGs.
Don’t forget we can also get some great model ship hulls from Southern Cross Models.   Tim does some of the best quality fibre glass hulls for 1:72 scale model ship from WW1 to modern and from Patrol Boats up to US super carriers.    He recently completed the 1:72 scale hull for the new HUNTER Class Guided Missile Frigate that will start construction in Adelaide later this year.   This hull isn’t available for sale as yet however will be as soon as possible.   The first model was constructed by us for BAE Systems for the PACIFIC 2019 Maritime Exhibition in October and was the hit of the show. If you are interested in one of Tim’s hulls please ask us about what he has or visit his website at www.southerncrossmodels.com.au
Did you know that DMG also produces are range of 1:72 scale parts for modern ships including weapons, RADAR and fire control systems, deck hardware both in resin, styrene and photo etched brass and laser cut superstructure kits for several RAN and Allied Naval vessels.   These include parts for ships such as the RAN’s ARMIDALE Class Patrol Boats, HOBART Class DDG, RAN ADELAIDE Class FFGs, CANBERRA Class LHDs, PERTH Class DDG and USN ARLEIGH BURKE Class DDGs.   All superstructure parts are cut from high quality Evergreen Styrene.
In the photo etched parts, we produce a selection of railing stanchions in 1:72 scale for producing ships railings in 2 bar, 3 bar and 5 bar for the main decks of modern warships.   We also do railing sections for the platforms on the Mk38 Typhoon 25mm gun system.   Visit our website for our range of parts.
If you need a particular part for a model then please let us know and we will see what we can do for you.

Materials

A restock of Barnes resins is due in a couple of days and we received restocks of Evergreen Plastics so the rack is full.   Paints are all in, in both Testors Model Master including Dullcote and Glosscote, and Tamiya acrylics and lacquer sprays.

New Releases and coming soon...

A couple of new releases are imminent including the new 1:35 scale MH-60S Knight hawk, SH-60F Ocean Hawk and HH-60H Rescue Hawk which will be able to be converted into one of the RAN’s S-70 SEAHAWKS.   Following will be releases of the SH-60B and then the MH-60R Romeo Seahawk.   Discussions have been had with the distributor and they are contacting the manufacturers to see if RAN decals maybe included in the ROMEO.   Wouldn’t that be nice 😊 .
Hobby Boss have also announced the release soon of the SUPACAT Coyote and Jackal Tactical Support Vehicles in 1:35 scale.   With a little conversion this will build beautifully in the Australian Special Forces NARY Combat vehicle which is currently operated by the SASR and 2 Commando.  We’ve been waiting for this one.
We have a couple of kits coming soon that we are very excited about.   Better late than never, we have the Dragon Models 1:72 scale SATURN V Apollo Spacecraft.  This is a big model and stands just over 1.5m tall.   It breaks down into each stage of the Apollo mission and includes the EAGLE lunar vehicle.   This will join the 1:48 sale EAGLE which has just arrived in store.   We had hoped to get these early last year in time for the 50th anniversary however the demand was so great that not all stores managed to get what they wanted.
If there is any particular kit that you are after, please don’t hesitate to give us a yell and we will see what we can do to source it for you.

Coming workshops

We are often asked about how we do what we do in the workshop.  Coming in 2020 will be your opportunity to see how it is done and sign up for one of our workshops.   These will include, kit model making, scratch building from materials, pattern, mould making and casting parts, RC Model Ship Construction, and airbrushing.   So, if you are interested in learning a bit more on how to do one of these techniques or even all of them, Register an expression of interest and we will keep you informed of when these courses will be coming.
